Fine lines & dullness

Most of what people call ageing is sun damage with a gentler name. Which is good news, because sun damage is preventable.

The short answer: most of what people call ageing on Indian skin is photoageing, which is ultraviolet damage to collagen accumulated over years, plus dullness from slower cell turnover. Retinoids and peptides genuinely rebuild collagen over three to six months. Sunscreen is what stops you losing it again, and it does more for the outcome than any serum.

What's actually happening

Roughly eighty percent of visible facial ageing is photoageing: UVA reaching the dermis and degrading the collagen and elastin that hold skin firm. Add pollution, which drives oxidative stress and the dull grey cast that no amount of exfoliation shifts, and you have the two forces doing most of the work.

The honest part

Antioxidants in the morning and sun protection every day will do more for how your skin looks in ten years than any cream sold on the promise of lifting. Prevention is unglamorous and it is the whole game.

The approach

Four moves, in this order.

Step 01

Antioxidants in the morning

Vitamin C at a real dose, stabilised with ferulic acid, neutralises the free radicals that pollution and UV generate through the day.

Step 02

Support the collagen you have

Vitamin C is a required cofactor for collagen synthesis. It isn't only a brightening ingredient.

Step 03

Hydration reads as youth

Fine lines are visibly deeper on dehydrated skin. Hyaluronic acid and ceramides soften their appearance within days.

Step 04

Then protect it

Every antioxidant you apply is working against UV exposure. Take the exposure away and it gets to work on repair instead.

Common questions

The ones people actually search.

How do you reduce wrinkles on the face?

Retinoids are the only topical class with strong evidence for rebuilding collagen, and they take twelve to twenty-four weeks to show it. Peptides such as Matrixyl support the same process more gently. Daily SPF 50+ prevents further breakdown. Anything promising visible wrinkle removal in days is temporarily plumping skin with hydration, which is real but not structural.

At what age should you start anti-ageing skincare?

Sunscreen from childhood, because the damage that shows at forty is accumulated from the beginning. Actives such as retinol and peptides make sense from the mid-twenties onwards, when collagen production begins its slow annual decline. Starting earlier than that adds irritation risk without adding benefit.

Does retinol thin the skin?

No, the opposite. Retinoids thin the outermost dead layer, which is why skin looks smoother, while thickening the living dermis by stimulating collagen. The flaking and sensitivity of the first few weeks is adjustment, not damage. Introduce it twice weekly and build up.

What causes dull skin?

Slower turnover leaving dead cells on the surface, dehydration flattening the way skin reflects light, and accumulated sun damage making tone uneven. Exfoliation and hydration fix the first two within weeks. The third is a pigmentation problem and takes months.
