What it actually does
Ceramides make up around half the lipid content of your skin barrier. They are not a moisturiser in the conventional sense. They don't sit on the surface holding water, they become part of the structure that holds water on your behalf. When cleansing, air-conditioning and over-exfoliation deplete them, skin loses water continuously and becomes reactive to products it previously tolerated.
What the evidence says about dose
The ratio matters more than the number. Skin's own barrier uses several ceramides together in a set proportion, which is why a formula built around one of them is closer to marketing than repair. Our cartons state three essential ceramides; we don't publish the exact ratio, because we won't print a number we can't show you.
What it pairs with
Excellent with everything. Particularly valuable directly after acids and retinoids, where it makes long-term use tolerable.
Where to be careful
None. Ceramides are among the few skincare ingredients with essentially no downside.
