What it actually does

Exosomes are microscopic vesicles that cells use to send instructions to one another: growth factors, proteins and genetic messengers packaged for delivery. In aesthetic dermatology they're applied after microneedling and laser treatments to speed recovery, and early studies on redness, texture and healing time are genuinely interesting. We list them because you'll increasingly see them on labels, and because our standard is to tell you where the evidence actually stands: strongest in-clinic post-procedure, emerging for leave-on cosmetics, and highly dependent on source and stability. This is an ingredient to watch, and to buy carefully.

What the evidence says about dose

There is no established topical dose; quality hinges on source, purification and cold-chain stability, none of which a front label shows you. Ask for the origin (plant, human stem-cell-derived or animal): a serious brand will answer.

What it pairs with

Post-procedure alongside barrier repair: ceramides and hyaluronic acid. Not something that replaces sunscreen, retinol or the basics.

Where to be careful

Regulation is still catching up with marketing here. Be wary of injectable 'exosome therapy' outside a qualified clinical setting.
