The smallest of the alpha hydroxy acids, glycolic acid penetrates readily and works on the surface layer. In pigmentation, that matters — it clears already-pigmented cells so fading keeps pace with the actives slowing new pigment. It also increases sun sensitivity, which in a country with this UV index makes daily sunscreen a condition of use rather than a suggestion.
Low and frequent beats high and occasional. A daily low dose in a cleanser does more, with less damage, than a monthly strong peel.
With brightening actives and, always, with morning SPF.
Don't stack with other exfoliants on the same night. If skin stings or flakes, you're over-exfoliating.
