Alpha Arbutin
A gentler, slower-releasing route to the same target as hydroquinone.
What it actually does
Alpha arbutin is a naturally derived glycoside that releases its active form gradually at the skin surface. That slow release is the point. It inhibits tyrosinase steadily without the irritation, rebound pigmentation or ochronosis risk that makes unsupervised long-term hydroquinone use a genuine problem in India, where it is sold far more freely than it should be.
What the evidence says about dose
2% is the well-supported concentration. Higher does not translate to faster.

With vitamin C in the morning and kojic acid at night: different pathways, complementary results.
Where to be careful
Nothing significant. It's among the safest brightening actives available.
